The HD 6790 formula is simple: they took the processor with HD 6870 , cut a third from him, reduced the frequency and received a budget card. Only 800 remained from 1120 stream processors, the number of texture blocks decreased from 56 to 40, ROP blocks from 32 to 16 pieces. The frequency was reduced from 900 to 840 MHz. They did not touch the memory and tire: 256 bits, 1 GB GDDR5, frequency 4200 MHz.
All HD 68×0 technologies remained on the spot. The card supports exotic smoothing modes, works with 3DSTEREO, equipped with improved (compared to HD 5xx0) tessellation engine and UVD3 processor, accelerating video stream processing.
Only one thing is surprising in all this – energy consumption. While the GTX 550 Ti consumes 116 W, and HD 6850 – 127 W, the new card requires 150 W. And this most likely means that chopped crystals that have not passed the check on the older boards are put on HD 6790.
Indirectly, this hunch confirms the absence of HD 6790 of its own design. The card exactly copies HD 6850: the same dimensions, the same cooling, the same arrangement of elements. There is nothing wrong with this, but it spoils the impression.

The company sent us to the HD 6790 tests Sapphire. The manufacturer abandoned the reference option and came up with his own cooling system. On the processor put a large aluminum radiator with three copper thermal pipes, installed a 90-mm fan on top and covered with an original plastic casing. It goes only in DX10 mode, when switching to DX11, the speed drops to 25-28 FPS at the average graphics settings and up to 16-22 FPS on high.
To HD 6790, it should be noted that neither GTX 460 1 GB nor HD 6850 C “Metro 2033” on high settings also do not cope: the advantage of 2-3 FPS weather does not make. But in other games, the difference is more noticeable, from 3 to 18% in favor of senior cards. As for the GTX 550 Ti, it turned out to be 7% slower than HD 6790.

As is usually the case with new boards, Russian retail again confused all the cards. While in the West HD 6790 it costs 4200 rubles and is fighting with the GTX 550 Ti, in our country 5000 rubles want a new product in our country. And this is a completely different segment in which there are obviously faster GTX 460 1 GB and HD 6850. And while the price of HD 6790 will not decrease to the European level, it is pointless to buy it.
