In this nomination, we celebrate releases that most disappointed us in the past year. This is not necessarily failures (although they are too) – first of all, these are games from which we expected much more than we got in the end.
Third place – Warcraft III: Reformged
2020 began with such a crushing disappointment that many in absentia wrote it into the winners of this nomination. No one could have imagined that Blizzard , the last 25 years produced exclusively hits, including an intelligent remaster Starcraft, will not cope with the revival Warcraft III. And okay, it would be a question of a simple upgrade of graphics – no, Blizzard promised to significantly improve Katsen's setting, fix the balance, finalize the cards and fit the storyline to the canon significantly expanded over the past 18 years.
As a result, the graphics, of course, improved, but only episodically. Cards have changed – but few. Balance too, but few could appreciate it. The fact is that Blizzard closed the online classic mode Reign of Chaos In favor ReForged , where there were no many things, to which fans are accustomed from the beginning of zero: tournaments, clans and custom campaigns. Something later returned in patches, but not everything. REFORGED multiplayer is only a shadow of the former greatness of Warcraft III.
The campaign was also not particularly prettier. There is little new content, and the absence of a normal setting of Kitszen, which was so actively promised on the announcement, is especially striking. The new Russian voice acting. But, fortunately, the campaign did not suffer the same damage as multiplayer; It is still worth playing for it for the sake of exciting missions and plot. However, with the same success, you can find old Jewel on a dusty shelf and play from it.
Second place – XIII
Unlike monumental Warcraft III, shooter XIII , released Ubisoft in the distant 2003, there was not enough stars from the sky at the time of the release. He was remembered primarily for a catchy visual design and production: the game correctly used the Selo-Sheading, so she looked like a revived comic book. But almost everything else in it required scrupulous refinement to look at least acceptable in 2020. Studio remake Playmagic I rebelled the game from scratch … And in the process I mutilated it beyond recognition. It turned out fluffy Jesus from the world of video games.
The recognizable style disappeared completely: minimalism with the emphasized with thick contours of objects gave way. The sel-shearing disappeared, and without it, the low-polygonal models and the scenery remains to be saved. The screensaver between the levels that previously looked like revived comic straps look in remake like the term papers of an animator-three. Already for one murdered visual series new XIII I would deserve places in this top: there is so ridiculous and wretched now there is little game.
However, Playmagic not only destroyed the main advantage of the source, but also trodden on everything else. The sound is staged nightmares, the music is periodically disappeared, the controllers are not recognized, the mouse is buggy, the corpses dance gopak, the enemies taken into the capture demonstrate whitening jaws from the inside of the skull, the US president clones themselves, deer stuck in trees, and the dead opponents are conceived before turning into slowly into slowly in Settling rag dolls.

Deserve mention
2020-year of gaming rage. It is difficult to find at least one more or less large project that has failed to disappoint many players. Remake Final Fantasy VII It turned out to be too linear and heated too much in the script; remake Resident Evil 3 became a short and crepted attraction; Doom Eternal There is no measure in any way and in vain hit the plot; V Cyberpunk 2077 dumb AI, bugs and poor performance on consoles; V Serious Sam 4 – primitive left -handed, but what about The Last of Us: Part II… Well, you yourself know everything. Claims can be put forward to anything (and then argue for a long time how much they are appropriate), but instead let's better pay attention to the games less noticeable – those that do not immediately pop up in memory.
Star Wars: Squadrons could revive the interest of the general public in cosmic battles, as she did Rogue Squadron Two dozen years ago. But it did not work out: monotonous tasks, a short and linear campaign, a fresh multiplayer – all this instantly gets bored and forgotten. But most of all in Squadrons disappointed the script: we did not expect such an empty from Walt Williams ( Spec Ops: The Line)!
Another career suicide was committed by the co -author this year Halo Marcus Lateo. And what can Marvel’s Avengers please? Avengers here are not recognizable characters from movie screens, but strangers who look like cosplayers from Comic-Con. The phrase "Game-Service" has become a verdict for Marvel’s Avengers.
